Begum Akhtar, born Akhtari Bai Faizabadi on October 7, 1914, in Faizabad, India, was an iconic figure in the world of Indian classical music, renowned for her mesmerising voice and emotive renditions of ghazals, thumris, and dadras. From a young age, Begum Akhtar displayed exceptional talent in music and received training in classical Hindustani music from renowned masters like Ustad Ata Mohammed Khan and Ustad Moizuddin Khan. With her distinctive style characterised by soulful expressions and impeccable control over intricate melodies, Begum Akhtar captivated audiences across India and beyond. Often hailed as "Malika-e-Ghazal" (Queen of Ghazal), she left an indelible mark on the world of music, earning accolades and awards for her contributions.
