The one and half anna postal stamp has the distinction of being the first postal stamp to be issued by independent India. It was issued on 15 August 1947. Designed by T.I. Archer, the stamp was printed in Security Printing Press, Nashik. The print run was 22,700,000. The inscription on the stamp read Jay Hind in Devanagari and the date 15th Aug 1947, to signify India's independence day.
