The Krimml Waterfalls (German: Krimmler Wasserfälle) are located within the High Tauern National Park in the Salzburg state of Austria. With a height of 380 mt, they are the highest waterfalls in Austria.
A tiered waterfall, Krimml starts from a glacial stream in the Krimml Ache valley and plunges down in three steps, each more than 100 Mts. The area is thickly wooded and makes picturesque landscapes.
In 1970, Austria released a stamp on the Krimml Waterfalls on the occasion of the European Nature Conservation Year. This was part of a Europe-wide initiative where many European nations have been joined in postally calling their public’s attention to the need for conserving not only natural resources but the wildlife and the flora and fauna of their areas.
