The 1959 “Série Moedas” (Coin Series) was issued by Portuguese India in 1959 and showcased the historical coins minted during the Portuguese colonial era in India. These stamps not only served postal purposes but also celebrated the diverse coinage that circulated in territories like Goa, Daman, and Diu. Released on December 1, 1959, this series comprises 20 stamps, each showing coins from rulers like Maria I and Jose I.
The stamps were designed and printed at Casa da Moeda de Portugal using the offset lithography technique. The denominations were the new currency adopted by Portuguese India in 1959.
