On 1st December 1957, the government of Portuguese India issued a set of eight stamps (directive no. 16356, dated 22nd July 1957) depicting the maps of Damao and Nagar Haveli. This was done primarily to assert the Portuguese claim of Daman, and Dadar and Nagar Haveli. These former Portuguese colonial territories had passed into the Republic of India’s control after a popular uprising.
The stamps were printed at Casa da Moeda de Portugal, Lisbon, on enamelled paper using multicoloured offset lithography.
