Queen Victoria Large Format High Values

1895

High value stamps of 2R, 3R, and 5R were issued in September 1895 with the official state portrait of Queen Victoria. The portrait was done by Heinrich von Angeli, an Austrian artist who happened to be the Queen’s favourite. 

The stamps were printed in sheets divided into 8 panes, each pane carrying 12 stamps in three rows of four. Thus a sheet consisted of 96 stamps in total. The 2R stamps were printed in carmine and yellow-green and carmine and brown. The 3R stamps were in brown and green. The highest value 5R stamps were in ultramarine and violet.
