Sir Jamshetjee Jejeebhoy (1783–1859) was a pioneering Indian-Parsi merchant and philanthropist, and the first Indian to be knighted by the British and later made a baronet. Rising from poverty in Bombay, he amassed great wealth through trade with China, particularly in cotton and opium. He used his fortune to fund numerous charitable causes, including the establishment of hospitals, schools, and waterworks. Institutions like the Sir J.J. Hospital and Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai stand as lasting symbols of his generosity.
