Bhopal 1890-1900 Circle Lithographed
1890-1900
H.H. Shah Jahan Begam, the ruler of the princely state of Bhopal in the 19th century, issued a series of lithographed stamps that are considered significant in the philatelic world. These stamps, first issued in 1876, are among the earliest examples of postage stamps produced in India using the lithography printing process. They reflect the cultural and political identity of Bhopal during her reign. The designs of these stamps often featured inscriptions in Persian script, emphasizing the Islamic heritage of the state.
