Gabon (official: Gabonese Republic), is a country in Central Africa, known for its wildlife and natural resources. It is home to more than half of the wild African elephants, chimpanzees, and gorillas.
Gabon was first visited by Italian-French explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza in 1875 CE. It was slowly colonized and became a territory of the overseas French colony of French Equatorial Africa by 1910 CE. After the Second World War, Gabon became an autonomous region in 1958. It achieved complete independence in 1960.
