Correio India
Portuguese India – Padroes – Portugal & San Gabriel
1931
A government directive no. 18567, dated 30th June 1930, authorised the printing of a new set of postage stamps, ‘PADROES’, in different colours as prescribed by the Convention of Post held in London in 1928. The directive was only partially executed, resulting in 15 stamps depicting Portugal and Vasco da Gama’s flagship, San Gabriel. The stamps were designed and engraved by Arnaldo Fragoso and printed at the Casa da Moeda de Portugal in Lisbon.
